So Ring has decided to double the cost of their monitoring service from $10 to $20. Considering you have to install everything yourself and handle all the troubleshooting, I don’t see this going over well. Plus, their equipment is highly dependent on an internet connection, and you can’t switch to another monitoring service because their system is proprietary.
If you’re a Ring customer, will you be renewing your monitoring when the price doubles? What do you think about Ring raising their fee, especially since they don’t send out technicians to help?
Same here. I paired it with a smart deadbolt, and it’s been a great setup. There’s still an option to pay for monitoring services if you want, but I just run it without any fees and it works fine.
My parents use one, and while the picture quality is great, there’s a lag even though they have fiber internet. Live video lags, too. It’s not perfect.
I bought a Ring doorbell, and it’s been a nightmare. The battery lasts a week, the solar charger barely works, and the notifications are unreliable. I even got a WiFi extender and it didn’t help much. It’s just useless at this point.

Same here. I invested in the security system, upgraded to their pro base station, floodlights, and spotlights. I even bought three chime pros, and I still had issues. They had me climb up a ladder multiple times to reset the floodlights that were mounted 50 feet up. Ring doubling their price is a joke with the service they provide. I’m trying SimpliSafe now.
I had to reset my WiFi recently and was dreading the process of updating all 8 of my outdoor Ring cameras. When I called, they basically told me to take them all down and reset them manually. I felt like they just didn’t want to help.
Ring isn’t a real security system. It’s just surveillance that heavily relies on WiFi and their centralized service. You don’t actually own the system.
I run an alarm company. Ring charging $20 per month is now getting close to what I charge for professional monitoring. I like seeing Ring raise their prices because $10 was way too cheap and they were just buying market share.

I think a lot of people will leave Ring because they already do all the troubleshooting themselves. Their monitoring is hit or miss.
I hope so, maybe I’ll pick up some of their customers!
Everyone’s raising prices. SimpliSafe is doing it too. As for Ring, relying on WiFi for home security always felt sketchy to me. I built my own system with professional-grade equipment. I can monitor it myself, and my neighbor has a shotgun, so I feel pretty safe.
