Do you stick with your CCW for home defense or use something else?

I’m getting a small tax return and thinking about picking up a full-size pistol to go along with my P365X. Should I stick with another SIG or try something new? I’ve been looking at the Shadow Systems DR920 as an option.

Unfortunately, I live in a state that restricts AR-15s, but I’ve got my trusty 10/22 ready as a backup.

If you want to mix it up, maybe consider a rifle, AR-style pistol, shotgun, or another type of firearm altogether.

Don’t sleep on a good pump-action shotgun. Perfect for home defense or even around a farm. A 12-gauge can handle anything from slugs to birdshot.

@Remy
My wife keeps a 10mm on her nightstand, and I have a 12-gauge next to mine. She’s better with a pistol, and I’m more comfortable with a shotgun. Just go with what works for you.

If she’s better with a handgun, are you her girlfriend? Just kidding!

@Remy
Haha, no, it’s her pistol, and she’s just more comfortable with it. I prefer my revolver. Everyone has their thing!

Which revolver? Sounds like a good setup.

It’s just a .357 mag. I find it more accurate for me, but it’s too snappy for her.

Using an AR in tight spaces isn’t the best idea. Imagine trying to clear a corner with that barrel!

Wait, are you serious?

Yes, dead serious. A long barrel can easily be knocked away. A handgun is better for close quarters.

You do know the military uses rifles to clear rooms, right? Also, in a home defense situation, you shouldn’t be clearing rooms—just gather in a safe spot and call the police.

@Chen
The military isn’t dealing with home invasions; they’re in active war zones. Different scenarios entirely.

For home defense, a two-handed weapon like a shotgun or a PDW in 9mm or 10mm is a great choice. It’s more stable and accurate than a handgun. Pistols are really for carry and as a backup to your main weapon.

@Phoenix
I have toddlers, so my full-size gun safe is in the garage. I keep a small pistol safe by my bed. Any suggestions for safely storing a long gun in the bedroom without adding another gun cabinet?

@Sky
Wall mount could work.

Does the trigger have to be unsecured? Seems risky with kids around.

Yes, but the action is open and blocked.

Look into a chamber lock. It prevents the bolt from engaging even if somehow the action closes.

@Sky
You could build a plywood storage box for under the bed or behind the headboard. Add a lock for safety.
