Would a .177 Pellet Rifle Be Useful in an Emergency?

I live in a country where guns are almost impossible to get legally. Since I don’t want to deal with criminals, would a pellet gun help in a worst-case scenario?

Not unless you want to just annoy the person coming at you.

Thanks

If you do get one, make sure it’s got a solid wood stock. The only use it might have is as a bludgeoning weapon. It could intimidate someone into running off, but honestly, so would a baseball bat.

Make sure to smooth out any sharp edges with some fine sandpaper and keep it well lubed. Anyone you shoot with it will probably just take it from you and use it against you.

That sounds fun…

Some pellet guns might work, but the ones that actually would be effective aren’t allowed. You’d need something like a .50 cal with heavy bullets. Video Link

Nope.

No, you’ll just make them angrier.

Honestly, you’d be better off with a slingshot.

The only advantage is that it could look like a real rifle in the dark. I’ve had to use one to kill a rat, but I doubt it would do much against a person.

Nope.

There are some bigger pneumatic rifles that might work better.

Yeah, I’ve seen the 9mm Artemis PCP rifle. I’m planning to get one soon. I heard it can reach up to 240 joules.

@Rory
Yep, that’s the one I was thinking of!

A paintball marker with ‘practice’ rounds might actually be a better option.

Nope, it’s just going to make them mad.
