I just moved into this apartment and can’t figure out how to lock the sliding window. I know it’s possible—I somehow managed to get it locked once, but I have no clue what I did! I’ve tried fiddling with it for a while but haven’t had any luck. Thought I’d reach out here and see if anyone has any tips.
Try placing a curtain rod or broomstick in the window track. It’s an easy way to keep the window from sliding open. You might need to cut it to fit snugly.

Actually, I found something that fits! It’s a bit angled, but it seems secure. Thanks so much!

Unfortunately, my window’s not near the floor, and I don’t have anything to cut a broomstick. I’m searching through what I’ve got so far to see if anything will fit the track!
A small piece of wood works well in the track. Adding a little screw or handle on it can make it easier to put in and take out.
Also, make sure the window can’t be lifted off the track entirely. Sometimes these sliding windows can be pulled up and out if they’re open even a little. Check that it has a stopper to prevent this.
If you’re trying to use the window’s built-in lock, you might want to contact maintenance. They can show you how it works or help secure it until it’s fixed.
