I recently installed a window AC unit, and I’m worried about security. What are the best ways to secure it so no one can just push it out or lift the window? Any tips would be appreciated!
Almost all of them come with brackets that screw to the window frame to prevent the window from opening. If the window opens, the unit falls out. You can reinforce these of course, but bear in mind that a window is a window whether or not it has an AC unit in it, and can only be secured to a point.
Putting a bar is a good start. I also put a window sensor, so if the intruder can still lift the window, the alarm siren will kick in instantly.
I thought about doing that, but wasn’t sure if it’d be enough. Do you think the window sensor would be too sensitive with the AC running?

Also, I live on the ground floor, so I feel like I need to add a bit more security.
This has always worked well for me. EZ-AC Air-Conditioner Security… https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01HBWD8NK?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

I just stumbled upon this by chance, but thank you. I never knew these existed and sure as heck could have used some!
Most units have mounting holes along at least the top and bottom to secure against parts of the window frame. A bar or other device to stop the window from sliding open (more) would also be a deterrent.

A window can always be broken, whether or not there is an AC unit in place. If that’s a concern, bar your window or block it up. There are bars that incorporate a size allowance for an AC unit.

That’s what I’m worried about. I know bars are an option, but do they make them for windows with AC units? I feel like it’d be a hassle to install.

And if I install bars, do I need to worry about removing them if I want to take the AC unit out for the winter?
What about securing the top half of the window from being pulled down?

My thought exactly. How do you secure the top if you have no track? I can’t do the same as the bottom.
To secure a window AC unit, consider using window locks and reinforcing the frame. Additionally, placing a wooden dowel or metal bar in the window track adds an extra layer of security.
