Hey everyone, I had to move my dad into assisted living last week and some of his questionable friends broke into his house and stole things. The police have been called. He used to use Arlo cameras in his old home, but I’m looking for a setup that doesn’t require a monthly fee unless it’s really necessary. I’m worried that if I put visible cameras outside, they might just get pulled down or destroyed by whoever’s doing this.
I’m also looking for hidden cameras to put inside the house. I’m not very familiar with home security systems, so any suggestions for cameras, alarms, or anything else would be greatly appreciated.
Honestly, I would recommend paying for some cloud storage. It’ll save you trouble in the long run, especially if the cameras get damaged or stolen. Wyze cams are a cheap option that works well. You can place them inside and outside. They use SD cards for continuous recording, and the cloud storage is only $10 a month for unlimited cameras, which is pretty affordable. It might be cheaper than Arlo, but definitely worth considering.
For hidden cameras, you can find many that record directly to SD cards, so you won’t have to pay for cloud storage. Just make sure it’s well hidden—something disguised as a picture frame or a power outlet should work. Avoid more obvious stuff like alarm clocks or phone chargers, as they might get stolen.
If the house has Wi-Fi, a hidden cam with streaming capabilities could also be a good option. You could view the footage on your PC and store it there.
I’ve used a hidden camera to monitor my Airbnb, and it works pretty well. Though it’s a bit too bulky to be super discreet. Look for something compact if you’re trying to hide it in plain sight.
I’d recommend Eufy. They don’t have any monthly fees and work really well. Go for the plug-in versions rather than battery ones for longer usage. They should suit your needs.
