Hey, I wanted to share a simple way to add a contact sensor to your garage door. It’s a cool DIY hack that’s worked for me, and I thought others might find it useful!

Go home, Connor, you’re drunk.
Why not just use a tilt sensor? They’re made for this, and those magnetic ones can be tricky with metal doors.

Yeah, Honeywell makes a specific one for this kind of setup.

I’ve had issues with tilt sensors. I’ve tried a few different brands, and none have been consistently reliable.
@Jordan
Same here. I have two, and one always seems to give me problems.
Every big alarm system manufacturer offers garage door tilt sensors. There are also contact sensors you can install above the door.
We need more posts like this and fewer ones about random ring camera footage.
That’s a pretty clever idea…

Hingenious, you could say…
Smart use of a sensor, I like it!
Funny enough, I’ve got the same setup on my garage door!
Honestly, you can just install one at the top or bottom of the door like they’re made for. It’s super easy, no moving parts to deal with. This hack seems unnecessary.
Only concern is if it only activates at a certain height. Could someone just crawl under and avoid it?

You could put it at the highest point where even lifting the door a little would trigger the sensor.
What sensor is that? What does it do?
