Car keeps slowly driving by my house out of nowhere

I’m a 21-year-old woman living about 15 minutes from the nearest town, with just one neighbor nearby. It’s currently 3 a.m., and there’s a truck that has passed by my house very slowly, turned around, and driven back three times now. It’s making me extremely uneasy, and I’m unsure of what to do, so I decided to search on home defensive for advice.

I grew up in the city, so I never really paid attention to cars passing by. But out here, where there’s usually no traffic, seeing this kind of activity, especially at this hour, is really concerning. Should I report this? I tried to take pictures, but my house is far from the road, so it’s difficult to capture anything.

Definitely something to keep an eye on and try to ID the vehicle if possible. Make sure everything is locked up too.

We live in a rural area about 10 minutes from town so I feel your pain. I will say, I think a lot goes on in my rural area as far as drugs/druggies and drunk drivers avoiding the major roads.

Honestly… I don’t know that it would be a big deal to call the non-emergency line for your sheriffs department and tell them the situation. Especially at 3am, I’m sure an officer wouldn’t mind driving by just to take a look.

Call the cops. Suspicious Vehicle. Do it now and sound worried.

Very interesting. Keep watching it make sure everything is locked. Hopefully you are armed. Maybe report if it continues tomorrow night as well

Definitely agree you gotta be armed, with a shotgun and at least a 38 or 40 or 9mm, and a lot of ammo. And get trained, with shooting skills and also scenario planning. Think through who are these people and what might they want. My first thought is this is very suspicious and I’d call the cops now, even if the bad guys seem to have left.

Especially if you live alone, it’d be good to work some plans with your neighbor. Cops doing everything right might still be much too slow. Sorry you’re having this shit. May it be nothing, except a spur to your action to become formidable.

I would call county sheriff and report it. Could be somebody lost and trying to identify address numbers. Could be someone scoping out for a future theft. Could be a maniac planning to dismember you and slowly send the photos to your family, one photo at a time.

Probs go ahead and report it.

The truck isn’t equipped with a sprayer, is it? My brother worked for a company that drove around in the middle of the night spraying for mosquitos and they went up and down each street many times to make sure each zone was saturated. (And no, it was not a high density urban area but 30 minute drive from one, and the cheap magnetic flashing orange roof light didn’t always work)

could be hunters, poachers, a drunk driver trying to find his house and not understanding why nothing looks like it’s supposed to…all kinds of stuff, most of it shady. Just call the cops and be done with it…if there is a legit reason for them to be doing what they’re doing, no harm no foul.

If you don’t have one or more sensor/motion-activated lights, install them as soon as possible. Agree with recommendation to also install (even inexpensive cam(s) (like Blink) to capture what info you can and share with the local authorities. No one is out sight-seeing at 3 AM….best of luck.

Put a game camera near the road at angle that can maybe catch their license plate. Also make sure your security lights are all working.

Please be safe, please consider all the excellent advice in the thread.

With that in mind: A lot of creepy interactions occur because they are allowed to happen, unchecked, and because creepy people thought they were being slick, unnoticed.

If it can be safely done (by you, by a pal, by a camera, by a sign w a photo of the car) then there is sometimes value in depriving creepers of their perceived stealth and anonymity. A simple “hey I see you, why are you here” is often PLENTY to put creepers on notice that not only were they observed, but they were SO observed that you made the effort to convey that to them. And shame them to all within range. These are often terrified folks who creep bc they fail with any light shined upon them.

Be safe! but also know that confrontation may be even more terrifying for them than for you. You deserve better

No trespassing sign and a motion sensor light end of your driveway. Make your house look occupied lights on, TV flashing etc. You should already have a good protective dog or two
