Can a security camera record from inside my car with dark tinted windows?

I have cameras by the door. My car is parked next to my house. Someone keeps messing with it, and my lawyer suggested this. The cameras are motion activated. My windows are very darkly tinted though. Can anyone recommend battery-powered systems that would still work?

Thanks a lot!

Those windows are so dark, they probably can’t see anything!
Tiiiiinted windows… haha.

Sorry, I’m not sure I get it. Is that a joke? Or are you saying no cameras would work?

@Casey
He’s making a joke about you typing ‘tainted’ instead of ‘tinted’.

But seriously, if you can see out of the windows, the camera should be able to too. You could test it with your phone. If you can’t see out, the camera won’t be able to either.

@Robin
Ah, thanks a lot. Sorry, I’m not a native speaker and my English is a bit rusty.

The windows are a bit dark, but I can still see through them with my phone. Would you recommend using dash cams or regular security cameras?

Thanks again!

@Casey
I’m not sure about camera suggestions, but you could check out this forum for dashcam info. They have detailed tips, including how to set up a dashcam to record even when the car is off.

Just get a regular dash camera and let it run 24/7. That way you’ll have footage both from inside the car and from the house.

Maybe try a DVR with motion detection? A camera’s PIR sensor won’t work through glass.

You can find cheap DVRs that run on 12VDC.

Or consider a game camera mounted outside, pointed at the car.

Yes, unless it uses infrared (IR) light, you’ll probably just get lens flare.

I suggest cutting a small section of the tint where you want the camera to view through.
