Best self-defense weapon when turning 18?

@Sky
I’m not sure about just using a flashlight. I’m a smaller guy, and if someone bigger comes at me, I’d rather have something like a non-lethal weapon or a gun to keep distance.

You could also look into other security measures, like security bars for your doors. They’re easy to use, don’t require installation, and are great for adding another layer of protection. Don’t forget to also replace short screws in door hinges with longer ones for added strength.

The best scenario is one where you never have to defend yourself. Secure your home with an alarm system and proper locks first. If they do get in, then consider a firearm as a last resort. In a home defense situation, lethal force might be necessary, but make sure you know the laws in your state. Wisconsin has a Castle Doctrine, but it’s not the same as Stand Your Ground, so understand when and how you can legally defend yourself.

A 10.5” AR pistol with a suppressor is a great option for home defense, but make sure it’s legal in your state.

I think that’s legal here in Wisconsin, but would that really be better than just a handgun for inside the house?

@Aubrey
It would require a tax stamp for the suppressor, and possibly for the SBR if it has a stock. Not sure it’s what you’re looking for.

Actually, it’s an AR pistol, so it’s fine with just the suppressor. No need for an SBR stamp.

@Aubrey
5.56 rounds from a short-barrel AR will tumble through drywall and be less likely to over-penetrate than a handgun round, which makes it safer for home defense.

Since you’re turning 18, I’d recommend a shotgun for home defense. You can also reinforce your doors and get pepper spray as a backup. These measures are easier to implement and less risky than relying only on a gun. But if you do get a shotgun, make sure to store it safely, especially with younger siblings in the house.

@Terry
Thanks, I’m leaning towards a shotgun. And I’ll definitely get a safe.

Good call. Also consider things like door reinforcements or an alarm system. Those small changes can make a big difference.

M4 Sherman Tank on your driveway. That’ll definitely do the trick! :joy:

Check out a .410 shotgun—low recoil, easy to handle, and great for home defense. Look up the KSG410 or the Mossberg 590 .410, both are solid choices.

I own both if you have any questions. I’d recommend the KSG410—it’s light, compact, and holds 14 rounds!

@Bao
Thanks! I might hit you up for more details soon.

@Bao
No problem! It’s a great little shotgun. Definitely worth checking out.

AR-15 is the way to go.

The KS7 is a great option. Bullpup shotguns give you the power of a full-sized gun with the size of a sawed-off, but legally.
