Beginner Tips for attack dog

I’m new to dog training and just got my first protection/attack dog. What are some essential tips for beginners to make sure I’m training them effectively but also keeping them calm and well-socialized? How do I strike a balance between making them protective and safe around others?

My biggest tip for beginners is consistency. Protection dogs need firm commands, but they also need to understand that not everything is a threat. Regular obedience training is key basic commands like sit, stay, and recall should be solid before introducing any protection work.

It really obeys me when i tell it to sit or stand.

Make sure your dog is stable in its temperament before you start anything serious. A good trainer will emphasize balance. Your dog should be confident, not fearful.

Are you saying I should familirize it with the family before training it.

There’s a difference between a protection dog and a pet. You don’t want to overdo the aggression training, or you risk making them reactive in inappropriate situations

Corgis are bred for managing livestock: they are not small dogs, they are just short dogs.

People make the mistake of thinking protection dogs only need harsh training. That’s not true! They’ll work harder for you if they respect you, not fear you.

I will try and give him less harsh training. Thanks for you suggestion

It’s easy to get excited and want to rush the process, but good training takes time. Protection work, in particular, can take years to master

How long approximately should this training take?

Protection dogs need rest and relaxation like any other dog. Regular playtime, cuddle sessions, and walks are essential.
