Would you use 30 round mags for home defense?

For home defense, do you think it’s worth using 30 round mags? I’m not sure how much legal trouble you’d get into, but if it means staying alive or keeping loved ones safe, maybe it’s worth it. Could you do it with just 10 rounds instead? What are your thoughts?

I’m not a lawyer, but if it’s about saving my family, I don’t care about legal consequences. I’d rather deal with court than lose my loved ones.

I agree completely, protecting your family is priority. But keep in mind, if the DA decides to pursue it, the consequences could be severe. If your mags weren’t legally acquired, it could mean more than just losing them—it might mean jail time and losing your right to own guns. Even if it’s rare for that to happen, it’s a risk you have to consider.

@Sage
Yeah, no matter what, you should always get a lawyer if you use a firearm for defense.

Absolutely. Even if there’s no criminal issue, a civil lawsuit is almost a given.

Exactly, my thoughts too.

Remember when you got those mags during freedom week? We had this exact conversation back then.

Haha, yup. Good times.

Man, I should’ve bought them when you told me about it!

It probably depends on where you live. But if they can’t prove you didn’t get them legally during freedom week, then you’re likely fine. Do what you need to protect your family.

Why would the law care if you swapped to a 10-round mag after the fact? Just a thought, not advice.

That’s what I was thinking too, lol.

Even though I have legal freedom week mags, I still keep 2 coupled 10-rounders ready just in case.

This reminds me of people who don’t want to carry expensive guns because they’re afraid of losing them. If your life is on the line, why handicap yourself? I’m not risking survival over something like that.

@Noor
Exactly. Why use something worse just because you’re afraid it might get taken as evidence?

@Noor
Not all expensive guns are good for carry though. Some are race guns that aren’t practical.

I’m not saying to carry a race gun. My point is, don’t let cost stop you from using the best tool for the job.

@Noor
Fair, but everyone has their own preferences. Reliable and practical matters more than price.

Agreed, as long as you’re using what works best for you.

You empty a 10-round mag, and the attackers are still coming. Or, you’re in court defending a magazine charge. Which one sounds worse to you? There’s your answer.
