A few months ago, my doorbell camera caught a car pulling into my driveway at 3:30 am. The driver rolled down their window and pointed a flashlight at my front door and the camera. I thought it was weird—it’s not like someone would be delivering food or anything at that hour. I tried to reason it out, like maybe they were looking for a lost pet, but why aim the flashlight at the door? Anyway, I forgot about it.
Now, three months later, the same thing happened again—this time at 5:50 am. Same car, same flashlight at the door, but this time they didn’t back out. They drove through my front yard. I’m positive it’s the same vehicle. I’ve reported it to the police, and they said they’ll keep an eye out in the area for suspicious activity.
What do you all think? What’s the best way to keep my house safe?
I used to deliver newspapers really early in the morning. Sometimes it was hard to find the right house number, so I’d shine a light around. It might be something harmless like that, but I’d still be cautious.

I’ve seen Amazon contractors in random cars delivering really early. They shine flashlights to check addresses.
u/654456 mentioned Amazon Flex, and that makes sense too.
That’s possible. Could be a newspaper or Amazon driver. But the weird part is, instead of backing out, the guy just drove through my yard. That’s what’s bothering me.
@Taron
Think about who takes these kinds of jobs. Not trying to bash everyone who does contract work, but they probably aren’t being super selective when hiring for overnight gigs.
You should install a license plate recognition (LPR) camera or a good night-vision camera to capture their plate if they stop while shining the flashlight. That way, you can identify the vehicle.

Having an LPR camera is a great idea. It’s way more useful than regular cameras in some cases. A lot of people doing shady stuff, like stealing packages or checking doors, don’t think to hide their plates.
