I came across this device and I’m wondering what kind of camera it is. Anyone recognize it?
That’s a motion sensor. It looks a lot like the one from SimpliSafe, but most of them look pretty similar.
It’s definitely a motion sensor.
EDIT: Yeah, it’s probably a SimpliSafe one. Here’s a link to what it might be: https://www.lowes.com/pd/SimpliSafe-Smart-Indoor-Motion-Sensor/1002621992.
That’s an infrared sensor with about 9-25 pixels. People often call them motion sensors, and they’re not actually cameras.
I’d guess SimpliSafe too. It’s just a motion detector. Depending on the settings, it either sets off an alarm or sends alerts to your phone when it detects movement. If this is in an Airbnb, it might be there to check for activity between rentals.
I installed a SimpliSafe system recently, and this looks identical. Just a heads-up—their motion detectors aren’t great.

Really? Mine works almost too well. I kept triggering it by accident until I learned to turn the system off before walking downstairs. It even catches small movements near the doorway where it’s set up.
It’s not a camera. Just a motion sensor.
Kind of a dumb question, but… can it see through clothing? Lol.
