Thoughts on my home defense setup?

Am I the only one who hates pistol grips on shotguns? They make hip-firing a nightmare.

It also makes the safety harder to reach on a Mossberg 500.

I actually like them. The Hogue grip on my 870 makes it easier to handle in tight spaces. But I’m a bigger guy, so maybe that’s why.

First pump-action I bought was a Mossberg 590 Marine. Still have it, love it. But it’s not my first grab for home defense anymore.

What’s your go-to now?

I just loudly say, ‘Excuse me, sir, I think you have the wrong house.’

What did you use to mount the weapon light? Also, what stock is that?

I got a Picatinny mount for a 12 gauge, but I can’t remember where from. The stock is from Phoenix Technologies.

A 12-gauge is a solid choice, but over-penetration can be a concern if you have close neighbors or family in other rooms.

That’s why I use #4 buck. It still hits hard but doesn’t over-penetrate as much as 00 buck.

If that’s what you’re comfortable with, it’ll definitely do the job.

Nice setup! Where’d you get the pistol grip? Only suggestion—consider using birdshot for the first round if over-penetration worries you.

Birdshot isn’t lethal enough. #4 buck is a better choice.

The stock is from Phoenix Technologies. Got it on CheaperThanDirt.
