Thief caught on camera…any way to sharpen the face?

Is it possible to clear up his face in the footage? My car got stolen, and I thought maybe tech could help.

Honestly, I doubt it. The quality here is like 4 pixels in total.

Ugh… maybe I watch too many action movies…

Classic ‘enhance’ scene in the movies!

@Oli
Wait… like, are you making a joke?

Yeah, it’s a joke. In crime shows, they always say ‘enhance,’ and suddenly the image is clear! Here’s a funny clip from a movie:

They did it in ‘Super Troopers,’ too.

Didn’t ‘Blade Runner’ do it way before?

You should check out those movies. They might not help catch anyone, but they’re fun to watch!

This is why you really need high-res cameras to catch details. A decent shot needs enough pixels to see things clearly, especially faces. Ideally, you’d want one camera for wide coverage and another zoomed in for close-ups.

@Iman
Actually, high resolution isn’t everything for facial recognition. The camera uses algorithms to analyze features, so the sensor matters more than just having a lot of pixels.

You’ve got to remember that true facial recognition systems are pricey. Even a basic setup can cost a few thousand. And even then, it’s only effective if you have a database of faces to match.

Posts like this always make me chuckle.

Sorry, I don’t know much about this stuff, maybe I’m just reaching.

Haha, it’s cool. I just see posts like this a lot.

@Ainsley
Oh, so this happens a lot, huh? Didn’t know it was impossible.

Yep, Hollywood’s given people some funny ideas about ‘enhancing.’ But yeah, if it’s blurry, there’s not much you can do.

@Ainsley
Guess that makes sense… but doesn’t facial recognition help if the pic’s better?

Facial recognition is real, but only with clear images. A blurry one like this won’t work.
