I’ve been checking out safes on Amazon, and most of them seem to have battery compartments on the inside. I want something where I can replace the batteries from the outside and only use a key for emergencies (which I hope never happen).
I’m not looking for a super-strong safe since any burglar with enough time can break into most home safes or just carry them off. This is mainly to keep my stuff safe from people like maids or visitors.
I’d love some recommendations for safes under $200 that meet this criteria. Thanks!
I’ve got a cheap fireproof safe for documents, and the batteries are replaceable from the outside. I picked it up from Costco 30 years ago. Honestly, I’ve lost the key, but the battery setup is really convenient. I thought most safes these days had that feature.

That might be true now, but about five years ago I had one of those AmazonBasics safes. It was awful. The batteries were inside, and when the keypad died, I had no choice but to break into it. It was ridiculously easy, even with no skills.
I’ve seen some safes with metal contacts under the keypad where you can press a 9v battery to temporarily power the keypad. Maybe look for something like that?
@Taylor
Yeah, it’s pretty simple. You just need to run wires out to an external AA battery holder. The parts are cheap, and it wouldn’t take more than 15 minutes to set up.
