Looking for LPR Camera

Hello, I’m not very experienced in this area, but I’m looking for some advice. I live in Colorado Springs, CO, and in 2022, they reduced car break-ins and thefts from a felony to a misdemeanor. It only becomes a felony if you’re linked to 22 or 23 vehicles, which is pretty ridiculous. This change has led to a surge in car break-ins and thefts in our area.

I’m seeking advice on a license plate recognition (LPR) camera and software that could be used in our neighborhood. Our HOA president would likely keep the cameras connected to WiFi and access the website or software as needed.

We had a local crime prevention officer attend a neighborhood watch meeting, and when I asked about these cameras, he said it’s a great idea if the entire neighborhood (only 30 houses) agrees to include them in our HOA fees.

Do you have any recommendations on cameras, software, or advice on how to make this work logistically? Thanks!

The EmpireTech IPC-B54IR-Z4E S3 is probably the best camera for residential LPR use. It’s a relabeled Dahua camera.

I use them at my house with success

If you’ve only got 1 or 2 roads into the development, might be easier to just outsource to Flock and let them handle everything. Plus any hotlist hits can go directly to PD dispatch center and the laptops in their cars.

If you roll your own you have to worry about getting power and data to the camera, and if it’s at someone’s house, what happens if they move and the new neighbor doesn’t want to help out.

Just contact Flock. They will handle everything.
