Hi everyone, I think someone might try to break into my house tonight. I need quick tips to make my home look intimidating or secure without having to buy anything or call the police (they’d take hours to arrive).
I live in a two-story house with a silent street in front, surrounded by trees and a wall (trees are outside the wall). I have fishing line, a machete, some pepper spray, and crackers. I want to avoid close contact at all costs. Any ideas?

Turn on all your lights, play loud music, and invite some friends over.
When I was in college, my roommates and I had a similar problem. Someone left dead rats on our porch one night, trying to scare us. All eight of us grabbed machetes and ran after the guy. Never had issues again after that.

That’s bold, but you should’ve left a couple of you back at the house. What if it was a diversion and someone else broke in while you were gone?

Good point, we didn’t think of that in the heat of the moment. Luckily, it worked out for us.
Get some friends to hang out with you, keep blunt objects nearby, and make it clear you’re awake. Lights on, car in the driveway. If anyone tries to break in, call the cops immediately.

Your life isn’t worth risking over stuff. Take anything sentimental and leave for the night. Let the police handle it. That’s why you have insurance.
This is the smartest move. If you know something is happening tonight, gather proof and leave. Also, think about who might have tipped them off. It’s often someone you know.
