I’m looking for advice on how to secure my PVC French doors at the back of my house. I’ve heard they can be a security risk, and after some recent events, I want to improve my home’s security.
I came across a product called Patlock, which is a set of bars for the handles along with a replacement spindle. It has good reviews on Amazon, but I’m skeptical because of all the fake reviews out there. Has anyone used it? Is it effective?
Would this be better than something like a U-lock bike lock or a long padlock over the bars?
If anyone has recommendations or experience with other solutions, I’d really appreciate your input.

I’d suggest using long throw cane bolts. They go into the floor and up into the door header for added security.
Thanks! Do you know if it’s possible to install these on PVC frames? The top part of the frame looks like plasterboard, so I’m not sure if it would work. Even if it’s not perfect, it might still help.
Thank you for the suggestion! I’ll take a closer look at the door’s surroundings. Unfortunately, I think it’s mostly plasterboard, but I’ll see if there’s any brickwork to anchor something to.
If you’re open to more extensive changes, you could replace the doors entirely or install something like a wrought iron gate outside. For a higher budget, you could even get a custom gate that matches the French doors, making it almost invisible from the inside. That way, you get the look of French doors with the security of a metal barrier.
