Guy snooping around at night with a blinking light…any idea what he’s doing?

This guy was caught on our camera last night, and I can’t figure out why there’s a blinking light. It’s kind of freaky.

Our family has two ideas: maybe he’s a friend of our neighbor’s son who got the wrong driveway, or he might have been trying to check the cars for something.
Either way, I’m feeling uneasy about this.

That’s probably just his phone using face recognition. The light is from the phone’s camera, you can actually test it yourself!

Phones with face recognition use IR light flashes to scan the face, which can show up on night vision cameras. Most likely, he’s holding his phone up to unlock it, and that’s causing the blinking.

Could be he was just using his phone’s flash to see around, but yeah… people do sometimes go through neighborhoods trying car doors to see if they’re unlocked. If they’re locked, they usually just move on.

I had someone like this show up once – turned out he was just looking at his phone, realized he had the wrong house, and left. Hope it’s something innocent like that for you too.

Can’t say exactly what he was up to, but I can explain the blinking light – new phones like iPhones use infrared lights for facial recognition, which causes that flashing effect.

It looks like he’s just staring at his phone, maybe using a map or something. But yeah, he’s wearing a mask, which is strange. Could be harmless if he’s lost, or maybe it’s something more sketchy.

Might want to do something to keep him from trying again.

@Bailey
It’s definitely for face recognition, not for ‘spying’ on anyone.

I’m a big supporter of having cameras placed around face height. They’re super helpful for identifying people in situations like this.
