Looking to hear opinions on the best setups for EDC (Everyday Carry) and home defense. What do you rely on, and why? Sharing my own experiences in the comments below.
I had a Bul Armory and it was the most unreliable firearm I’ve ever owned. Ended up selling it and getting a Staccato CS. To be fair, the Bul had a great slide and trigger—better than the Staccato—but it just didn’t feed properly. When it worked, it was a great shooter, but I couldn’t trust it.
@Vann
I had similar problems with my Bul. A lot of feeding issues and failure to eject early on. After some work, it runs okay, but my Staccato has been solid out of the box. Are you liking the CS better?
@Case
This weekend I had failures to feed with 124gr ammo. It ran fine with 115 and 147 before. Frustrating because I really want it to be reliable.

Yeah, mine didn’t like 124gr either. It’s definitely picky with ammo, which makes it hard to trust for defense.
@Case
My Bul had similar issues, plus I had the optic plate shear off twice, even when torqued to spec. I’ll admit it shot smooth when it worked, but I couldn’t trust it. The Staccato feels slimmer for easier concealment, and I’ve had no issues in 500+ rounds so far.
@Vann
Same here. I sold my Bul and went with a Staccato CS too. I tried everything to fix it—different ammo, springs, sent it back to Bul—but nothing worked. Super disappointing for a gun at that price point.
@Vann
Did you ever send it in for repair?
Heard this saying once: ‘Use the pistol to fight your way to the rifle or shotgun.’ It stuck with me.

Makes sense. I’m not big on shotguns, though. I’m saving up for a DD 300blk.

If you’re fighting to another weapon in your own house, the situation is probably over by the time you get there. It’s not like you’re defending against an army.
How are you liking the Bul so far?

It’s been decent. It ran flawlessly with 115gr and 147gr hollow points, but I had some failures to feed with 124gr +P this weekend. Hoping to fix that.
You’re relying on two unreliable guns for self-defense? Good luck with that.

Unreliable based on your experience or just what you’ve heard? My Prodigy ran 100% with +P ammo, and the Bul has been fine with 147gr.
@Ira
I’ve got the same Bul, and it was fine until I hit 800 rounds. Then I had failures to feed and eject. Sent it back to Bul twice, and it still wasn’t reliable. It’s in the safe now, not part of my rotation. Just a heads-up.
@Roan
Do you think it’s the magazines causing the issues?

Maybe, but the problem is Bul is the only company making those mags. It’d be great to test with another brand, but that’s not an option.
What slide stop is that on your EDC? That checkering looks slick.

It’s the one that comes with it. Straight from Bul Armory.
