Best POE Cameras for Home Security... What Works for You?

Hi everyone,

I’m looking to set up a home security system with about 5 or 6 POE cameras connected to an NVR. I’ve been doing a lot of research, but there always seems to be some downsides with the options I come across. I would love to hear your thoughts on the best POE cameras and NVRs to install based on the following points:

  • Affordable yet reliable POE cameras and NVRs
  • A good app for live viewing of all cameras
  • An app that sends detailed notifications when motion is detected
  • Devices and apps with a solid security framework, so it’s harder to hack

Currently, I have a Wi-Fi camera connected to the ICSEE app, which I think is great (though maybe not the best in terms of security). I’ve been looking at Reolink POE cameras and NVRs, but I’ve found that the Reolink app doesn’t send the detailed notifications I’m looking for, which is a key feature for me.

Would really appreciate your feedback! Thanks so much in advance!

Reolink and make sure to use a proper vpn/firewall for security.

Thanks for the tip! Do you have any specific Reolink camera and NVR models you’d recommend?

I like Reolink and Dahua cameras. My opinion might change as tech improves, but they work fine for me right now.

Thanks! Could you recommend which camera and NVR models would be best?

I’ve been happy with the Reolink systems I’ve installed. They offer a lot of different camera options.

Thanks! Do you miss having rich notifications in the app? Also, which NVR and camera models do you use?

@Dylan
I’ve never had rich notifications, so I don’t really miss them. I have…

36-channel NVR, doorbell (wifi), Cx410, Duo floodlight, Argus 4 Pro, RLC-1224.

I’ve been happy with Amcrest, Dahua, and Hikvision cameras. Some of the Amcrest ones have a microphone. The audio quality isn’t great, but it’s better than nothing.

I like Reolink. They have AI and vehicle detection. A 4-camera system with a 6TB hard drive is about $600, and setup is easy as shown in this video https://youtu.be/XXpYhUU02G4. Wireless cameras are mostly just toys though. We replace Arlo, Ring, Nest, and Blink with more solid systems for people.
