Anyone else got a designated home defense and EDC gun?

Curious if others keep a separate gun for home defense and everyday carry (EDC). Personally, I have a Glock 19X for home defense with a suppressor and flashlight. For EDC, I carry a Sig P365.

I like the idea of having specialized setups for each purpose. What do you all use?

Home defense is a 5.56 rifle for me. It’s reliable, effective, and I’ve practiced enough to trust it in a crisis.

Have you fired a 5.56 indoors? The noise is a whole other level of unpleasant, even with hearing protection. A good argument for a suppressor if your state allows it.

That’s why I sleep with ear protection on. Tactical planning at its finest!

What if you don’t hear the intruder coming? Could be a problem.

I keep a suppressed VP9 for home defense—it’s what my wife is most comfortable with. My EDC is a Glock 19.

The VP9 is bigger and easier to handle in a home defense situation.

Currently, my 1911 does double duty as my EDC and home defense gun, but I’m planning to pick up a Benelli M4 soon as a dedicated home defense option.

I keep a Beretta 92A1 in the nightstand with a light and laser. It’s larger and more accurate for home defense. My EDC is smaller and more portable because I don’t anticipate engaging targets across a mall or parking lot.

What’s your plan for the mall, though? You can’t just yell at the bad guy.

Luckily, I avoid malls unless it’s Christmas shopping season.

My EDC is always on me, but if something happens at home, it’s just a means to get to my AR-15 in the safe. That’s my main home defense weapon.

For home defense, I rely on long guns—either a 12-gauge or an AR-15. My EDC is a handgun, but it’s more of a backup if something goes bump in the night.

I like keeping the home defense setup more specialized. Suppressor on the Glock 19X for comfort indoors and a tactical light for better visibility.

How does the CGS Mod-9SK suppressor perform? I’m considering getting one.

@Finian
It’s decent for its size—not as quiet as I’d hoped, but still effective. It keeps the gun compact for home use.

I have a suppressed 8" 300 Blackout as my primary home defense weapon. It’s quieter and hits hard. Also keep a Mossberg 500 nearby just in case.

My EDC is a Sig X-Macro, and I rely on an AR in 5.56 for home defense. The AR is just more versatile for that role.

I’ve been considering a suppressor for home defense, but the paperwork and waiting period are making me hesitate. Is it worth it?

I stick to one gun for everything. It’s better to be highly proficient with one platform than to spread your practice thin.

I carry a Glock 23 for EDC. At home, I have a 12-gauge Mossberg and a 7.62 AK for backup. I prefer to have options based on the situation.
