Hey,
I’m wondering if there are any quick and easy ways to detect if someone’s walking around in your house or opening your door. Any ideas?
Bells on the doors? Just attach anything that makes noise to a door, so it forces someone to make noise if they open it.
The only thing I know is taping a bit of mechanical pencil lead across the door and frame. Then check to see if it’s broken. But it’s not great if you use the door a lot.
You can tape a piece of hair or thin thread on top of the door frame. When you close the door, push it inside, and if it’s hanging out when you come back, you’ll know the door has been opened. You could also run twine low across hallways or open spaces and attach small bells. When someone walks through, the bells will ring and maybe even trip them. You could put foil on the floor too—if anyone steps on it, it’ll make noise. Or dust your floors with flour, and you’ll see prints if someone walks around.
Tape and string.
Here’s a video with an idea: https://youtu.be/cB9PE-FNKAY?si=0-banOc2CD1onjVV
You can also buy some thread or string with small bells from a craft store.
